To Do

This is not a drawing but a random To Do list and a found book page that just about a year old. Not really too interesting but I was cleaning up in preparation to leave NYC for Hong Kong (I hate coming home to a dirty apartment) and I found it buried in a pile on my desk. The found book page features old illustrations of the White House back in the day, before the landscaping grew up around the building.

I'm pretty busy this week but will try to get my act together and post some drawings. I'm going to be in HK from 12/2 until 12/15 nearly two weeks. I'm brining my computer and will try to post drawings as often as possible.

Stained Glass

I was just doodling on a napkin and this came out. It reminds me of a stained glass window.

Happy Thanksgiving 2!!
Today we at too much food for the second day running. I've missed a few days here and there between work and holiday crazyness. Tonight we ended up at the bar and I made a bunch of drawings on napkins with a black "stylus" pen.

It's good to be back.

Bike Parts

Here we have a list of bike parts that were needed to build up the bike frame that Andrew picked up last Thursday. I was out to dinner on Friday with Andrew, Travis and Demetri and we started talking about bike chains and the how they work and what a half-link is and how it differs from a full link. On the left is a drawing of a presta valve in cross section.

Union Square

This is a sharpie blind contour of Union Square from the 8th floor of 19 Union Square West. I was at a party that was celebrating the last episode of the Comedy Central show "Freak Show". There were some comedy celebraties at the party which was cool. Nothing too exciting to report except that there were two really cute dogs running around the party.

Woyzeck

A sketch of andrew and some random dude. We were out at Superfine after seeing the play Woyzeck at St. Ann's Warehouse in Dumbo. I'm not much of a theater goer but I really enjoyed this play. The set was very cool with a forest suggested by huge logs hanging from the rafters and a neat moveable "window' that would allow one actor to be "inside" and the other to be "outside" but with a simple shift of the window they could both be inside. Without having much to compare it to I would still recommend it highly.

Woyzeck is running until December 3

Satan Late Nights

A drawing that started on the Brooklyn bound 4,5,6 platform at Union Square. The train came before I could finish the sketch.

wooden bicycle

I was waiting for my carry-out food and I made a sketch of the Like-A-Bike wooden bicycle for children that I like so much. Pretty much a throw away.

Crescent Wrench - Exploded View

We had a Sunday pizza party at the Boat tonight and for some reason Andrew had a crescent wrench with him. He repeatedly grasped the wrench in his hand saying "the union forever!" At one point between Andrew's exclamations Travis was wondering out loud how the elements of the wrench were put together. This is my napkin drawing showing the exploded view of the wrench. Five years of studying Industrial Design in college finally come in handy.

Friday Drawing

Just a doodle page in my Moleskin notebook. I recently finished my BMX bike so now I have three different bikes that I can ride around town. I think the BMX will be a neighborhood bike.

Copy Cat

My drawing is on the left on blue paper, the original is on the right. I found this portrait and liked the technique and look so I thought I would give it a try. The original seems to be made with a brush rather than a pen so there is more variance in the character of the strokes.

It's me again

Another self portrait. Stylus felt tip pen on lined Moleskin soft journal that Dorothy gave me. It has a weird warped look which I like.

Blood Wing

November 4th, 2006
Blood Wing is a new band. This is my idea for the album cover artwork. The sketch on the right is the first iteration: Angel w/ Bleeding Wings. After a quick critique with Kate we decided that with a bit of cropping the idea could have more impact so the sketch on the left shows the a cropped view of a bleeding wing with the angel's hand holding a halo.

This will need more work, I will keep you posted.

Totem Pole

Original Drawing Date - Friday November 3, 2006
Well, I've missed a few days of posting due to sickness and some problems with my internet access. I was still making drawings so get ready for a multi-post day.

This little sketch was made on a scrap of paper from the gift I gave to Jamie last weekend. I've always liked little cute characters but don't really draw them too often and when I do the never really turn out. Recently LJ posted a link to the Pictoplasma web site which is some sort of collective that makes very cool drawings, dolls, movies etc.

Yeah, those Pictoplasma folks are pretty talented.

Fast Faces

These are some fast faces that I drew last night before going to bed. I noticed a grafitti drawing on a wall on the bike ride home that was a simple face drawn with only a few curly lines for each of the main elements.

outside

An outside sketch made in about 5 min. with a felt tipped pen. It was night time so the sky was dark but short of coloring in the sky I wasn't sure how to show the time of day. I drew the moon but doesn't really look like the moon. I did like drawing quickly with a wider pen, I was able to cover much more paper and get things worked out pretty quickly. I would like to try this technique along with a thinner pen to show a bit more detail. All said I'm happy with this one.

Oh, I'm also trying out posting in the morning rather than late night. We'll see.
